In the shipbuilding industry, the MTM Organization can also look back on a multi-year cooperation with the large German shipyards. This industry branch has been no less affected by crises, but despite insolvency among many companies, today 27,000 people in shipbuilding and around 70,000 in the maritime delivery industry are still employed. The MTM Organization has always endeavoured to strengthen the competitiveness of shipbuilding, and, thereby, to preserve jobs. Thus, extensive data analyses were created for the shipyard Howaldtswerke Germany, the largest employer in Schleswig-Holsteins. Based on these results, optimized work processes, for example, could be developed along the way which leads to a production increase of up to 30 percent. At the same time, basic data for branch-overlapping steel building could be established.
The MTM Organization was also active in helping the Aker MTW Shipyard Ltd. in Wismar. Contracted by the shipbuilder, known today especially for having built the “Aida“ club ships, the MTM Organization developed optimized construction and production processes and a bonus wage system.
But the MTM Organization could not prevent the end of the shipbuilder. Together with Weser AG, it built the speed steamship “Bremen“, which received the Blue Band in 1929 for the fastest Atlantic crossing. In 1983, one of the shipbuilders richest in tradition disappeared. On the other hand, however, the MTM Organization was involved in preserving the Neptun shipbuilder in Rostock.
